Arishina
Friday · 12 Feb · 10:00arishina · the turmeric morning
Turmeric on the bride at ten, green bangles at eleven. The morning belongs to the women of both houses.

Two families. One cloth. Three knots on the morning of 13 February 2027.

Dear guest, your thread is already on the cloth.
With the blessings of both our families, come and tie your name into ours.

Sindhu grew up with jasmine in her plait and Karanveer with a dhol under his window. Two houses, two languages, one table that now runs from Bengaluru to Delhi. The knot is ours; the thread is yours.
Each knot is a day, or a night, where the two threads cross. Come to the ones you can; the cloth holds all of them.
arishina · the turmeric morning
Turmeric on the bride at ten, green bangles at eleven. The morning belongs to the women of both houses.

mehndi · henna, the night before
Henna on the verandah through the afternoon; the aunts sing, the cousins keep score.
sangeet · the families sing and dance
The dhol arrives with the baraat at nine; both families dance until the drummer gives up.

maduve · dhare, the three knots, seven steps
The three knots are tied here.
Dhare at the muhurta, the three knots, the seven steps: the morning the two threads become one.

the reception · the Delhi night, no rites, all dancing
Delhi, a week on: no rites, one long night, bring shoes you can dance in. The Grand Marquee, Chhatarpur Road.

8th Cross, Malleshwaram, Bengaluru 560003 · Find the door
Bengaluru traffic is a rite of its own. Leave an hour early; the mantap will wait for you, the muhurta will not.
Silk and colour for Bengaluru. Something you can dance in for Delhi.
Your presence is the gift. If you must, the families have chosen a fund over things.
Every rite on this card carries one line saying whose it is and what it means. Ask us the rest at the door.
Saturday, 13 February 2027 · 10:48
150 days from today. Come early; the muhurta will not wait.
Tie your name into the thread. We are counting knots.
On the cloth of Sindhu & Karanveer: your knot joins the couple's three, once tied.
The threads run off the edge of the cloth here. They pick up again on Saturday, 13 February 2027, and there is a knot waiting with your name on it.
